 Course Dates 2018 & 2019

Despite all the issues that Brexit has raised, one thing is certain…….. Driver CPC is not going away.

While the need for professional, vocational LGV and PCV drivers’ to attend regular refresher training was initially introduced to comply with the European Training Directive, the need to undertake 35 hours of JAUPT approved periodic training every five years is now required to comply with UK law and whatever happens in March 2019, Driver CPC will still be here long after then!

Truck UK specialise in putting together bespoke compliance packages for goods vehicle operators and this includes driver training courses. However, we do have several off-the-shelf approved modular courses that count towards the required 35 hours of approved training to be undertaken every five years by professional, vocational drivers, to ensure that they will hold an in-date Driver Qualification Card (DQC).

Truck UK are providing both ‘in-house’ Driver CPC courses that goods vehicle operators’ can organise for their own drivers on a date and at venue chosen by them, as well as at least one course on a Saturday each month between now and September 2019 that individual drivers’ can book for themselves and attend at our training centre in Lincolnshire (Thurlby, near Bourne – PE10 0EL).  You can download a pdf formatted electronic copy of the most up to date list of course dates at Thurlby by clicking: Driver CPC Courses 2019

There’s no need for anyone to attend the same course more than once, just to get five courses in before September 2019. We are providing five different courses between now and the second cut-off date for acquired rights drivers and if you want to keep the Traffic Commissioner happy you would be well advised to show that you have not just ‘ticked the box’ by sitting through the same course over and over, but that as a professional, vocational driver and/or operator you have made sure that you took the decision to refresh your knowledge of a wide range of subjects by planning your course attendances.

Below is a list of the open course dates that still have places available on them between now and September 2019.

October 2018 and November 2018 course dates are already fully booked.  Additional dates will be added throughout 2019.

All Truck UK courses are presented by trainers that have been in, or are still in, the haulage sector as drivers’ themselves and they understand what the role of a vocational driver involves. This means they won’t be just clicking a powerpoint and reading a manual to get through the seven hours, but rather trying their best to interact and make the admittedly very long training day as interesting and worthwhile as possible.

Attendance on a Truck UK course training day begins with the driver identity check procedure, which must be completed before the course proper begins, to comply with the requirements of the awarding body – The Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT).

So, all those that have booked to attend need to be on-site between 07.30 and 08.00 and have their photo-card driving licence;  and/or their valid digital tachograph driver card; and/or their valid driver qualification card (DQC) with them, so that their identity can be confirmed and they sign to confirm that they are who they say they are!

The course proper will begin by 08.00, with a morning break of 15 minutes, a lunch break of 30 minutes and an afternoon break of 15 minutes, with a finish time of approximately 1600. Refreshments will be available throughout the day and a buffet lunch will be served in the middle of the day.

Attendees will be provided with handouts that refer to the course content, as appropriate.

Within a maximum of five days of the course completion, all those that were in attendance throughout the seven hours of training and have attended in relation to gaining their driver qualification card (DQC) will be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). As long as the registration is accepted by DVSA and comes up as ‘valid’ against the attendees driving licence, a certificate of attendance will be provided to each person that has been registered.

Open-to-all course fee -  The total cost of attendance, provision of refreshments throughout the day, a buffet lunch, course handouts, DVSA registration and the VAT element of the charges above is £75.00.  Payment must be completed at least seven days before the day of the course and all those paying for the course will be provided with a VAT Invoice.

In-house-course-presentations - If an operator or a group of drivers’ would rather have a course or courses presented at a time and location of their choice, we provide ‘in-house’ courses when Truck UK provide just the approved course and approved trainer.

The person booking and organising the ‘in-house’ day can specify start and finish times, as long as seven hours of training take place, to ensure that the JAUPT requirements have been met. A venue of choice can be used, as long as it meets minimum health and safety standards, in relation to sufficient seating for all those in attendance; safe access and egress to the training room; drinking water and toilets available throughout the day.

The cost for provision of the course and trainer is £595.00 + VAT (£119.00), with an additional cost of £8.75 per attendee that requires DVSA registration against their driving licence. The maximum number of persons that can attend is twenty.

As an approved training centre (Approved Training Centre Number AC00184) we provide a variety of approved Driver CPC Periodic Training to both goods vehicle and passenger transport drivers.
